If I had to critique something
My one sticking point? The page count shrinks book by book.
- Fury: 376 pages.
- Slade: 247 pages.
- Valiant: 256 pages.
- Justice: 222 pages.
- Brawn: 211 pages.
- Wrath: 203 pages (see what I mean?).
- Tiger: 221 pages (I think this small increase in pages was because readers were begging for Tiger’s story).
I get that you can’t stretch every subplot infinitely, but the drop-off in length makes the later entries feel almost rushed at times. It’s a minor gripe in a series I adore, but it’s there.

Romance on the New Species series
This series delivers raw, unapologetic heat. Dohner writes the kind of smut that makes you fan yourself.
Her heroes are alpha through and through: fiercely protective, jealous to a fault, with animalistic senses and almost shifter-like tendencies (sometimes very close to mate-bond tropes).
Best of all, every couple feels unique—Dohner doesn’t recycle the same spicy template book after book. Ellie and Fury’s tension is off the charts; Slade and Trisha’s romance is one of the series’ highlights; Tammy and Valiant’s more prominent beast side was unexpectedly hot, to name just a few. Each one has its own distinct story.
