I’ve only read Blake Black’s Soulful Seas Duet so far (Whisper Waves and Ocean Echoes), but it left an impression. The duet gave me an emotional, sometimes heavy, contemporary-paranormal reverse harem with a strong sense of place—small coastal towns, fishing boats, and an undercurrent of mystery. While I didn’t love every moment, I enjoyed the experience overall and would be open to picking up more from Blake Black in the future.

Author Overview
What I love about Blake Black
My perspective is based only on this duet, but within it, I noticed strengths that stood out: atmosphere, emotion, and a heroine whose profession added real depth to her character. Even when the story veered into predictable or repetitive territory, there were aspects that pulled me in.
-
Strong atmospheric vibes: Maine setting, fishing boats, ghosts, and an eerie coastal mystery.
-
Emotional depth: Themes of grief, resilience, and hurt/comfort shine through.
-
Character detail: Sloane’s job as a mechanic felt genuine and tied into her identity.
-
Found family themes: Even in a dynamic I didn’t love (brothers as a harem), the “togetherness” element was there.

What to keep in mind
I’ve only read this one duet, so my experience may not reflect Blake Black’s full range as a writer. The reverse harem here involves brothers, which isn’t my favorite setup, and sometimes the execution felt more like “sharing the FMC” than building a true poly family. Also, while Whisper Waves really hooked me, Ocean Echoes dragged a bit and had repetitive scenes. If sibling harems or slower pacing aren’t your thing, this duet may not be for you.
