About the series
Mystery Man is book #1 of the Dream Man series
Well, this is the first book of the series, so technically yes, but check the ending type above in case you want to avoid cliffhangers.
Book Blurb
While drinking cosmopolitans, Gwendolyn Kidd meets the man of her dreams. Then she takes him home. Then she wakes up alone. But her fear that she lost her dream man turns into a relationship with a mystery man when, night after night in the dead of night, he comes back for more. Hoping it will blossom into something real, she lets him.
But she doesn’t even know his name.
Gwen’s struggling with the decision to end their crazy non-relationship when her sister-from-hell, Ginger’s best friend pays a visit and warns Gwen that if she and her sister don’t get smart, they’ll both get d-e-a-d, dead. Gwen has no clue what’s going on but she’s used to Ginger’s antics and decides to lay the problem on her sister’s biker boyfriend’s doorstep. Bad choice. She hits the Denver Underground radar with a big, loud ping.
This means Gwen’s Mystery Man, Cabe “Hawk” Delgado has to step in to keep her safe. But when Hawk gets a dose of Gwen in the daylight, he makes the decision that he finally wants real with Gwen. However when Gwen gets a dose of badass, bossy, straight-talker Hawk in the daylight, she decides she’s done.
Thus begins the head-to-head of the Commando vs. Cosmo Girl as Hawk woos Gwen in his own unique way, Gwen survives firebombs, drive-bys, kidnappings, hot pursuits by biker hotties and gorgeous police detectives and discovers the heartbreaking reason why Hawk kept her at arm’s length.
And as all this happens, Gwen finds that her sister’s troubles are serious trouble and she must decide who to keep alive: her sister-from-hell or the man of her dreams.

Rating & review
My review
Dear reader who loves a macho man—possessive, jealous, alpha, great in bed, and totally questionable in real life but hot and sexy in fiction—please do yourself a favor and read Mystery Man.
This book is Kristen Ashley (KA) at her best: steamy, chaotic, and gloriously over the top. The story follows Gwen and her “Mystery Man,” Cabe “Hawk” Delgado, an ex-military alpha who sneaks into her bed for over a year before she even learns his name. The setup sounds insane, but somehow KA makes it work.
The first time I read this back in 2021, I gave it 4 stars. This reread? Solid 5. Distance really does make the heart grow fonder—and the dialogue easier to digest.
Ashley’s writing style is very distinct: lots of internal monologues, slang, and loooong paragraphs. It can be a lot, which is why I always space out her books. But when I’m in the mood? Nothing hits quite like it.
Worldbuilding
The setting? Classic KA. Denver Underground—motorcycle clubs, shady dealings, private security firms, and cops who are way too hot to be real. There’s plenty of “heroine in danger” drama where Hawk (or another man from the ever-growing cast of hot saviors) swoops in, commando style, to save the day.
Plot-wise, it’s not KA’s strongest. The main conflict revolves around her sister’s antics, which feels a bit simplistic, and some action scenes are definitely movie logic. But that’s part of the charm—this is pure romantic escapism. Think sexy chaos, emotional tension, and a few scenes so wild you just roll with it.
And that epilogue? O.M.G. This is exactly what I want in an epilogue—years in the future with kids. The kind of happy ending that gives you closure and warm fuzzies for days.
The characters
Hawk? Absolute perfection. I love an infuriating, alpha, one-word man who knows how to take care of his woman, both emotionally and physically. He’s bossy, protective, and occasionally frustrating—but when he loves, he loves. If pet names like “Babe” or “Sweet Pea” make you cringe, you might struggle here. I, however, swooned.
Gwen, our “Cosmo girl,” is funny, dramatic, and full of sass. Her inner monologue made me chuckle more than once. She’s also a magnet for chaos (and apparently every hot man in Denver), but her personality completely carries the book. She’s also a girls girl and loves Jimmy Choo heels.
“Then I needed to get my ass to the mall. I felt another little black dress coming on.”
Mystery Man is steamy, over the top, swoonworthy romance. Wait until you’re in the mood for something dramatic and deliciously extra, then dive in. It’s so, so worth it.
