Rating System and Tags Guide

Before you dive into a review, here’s exactly what my ratings mean — no guessing required.

I separate:

  • Steam levelHow graphic it is + How often it happens
  • Burn levelHow fast the relationship heats up
  • Plot pacingHow fast the story moves
  • Star ratingMy overall enjoyment

Let’s break it down.

🌶️ Steam / Spice levels

Steam = How explicit + how frequent the spicy moments are. It’s not about how often characters think about each other—it’s about what’s actually on the page and how explicit it gets.

🌶️ 1/5 — Minimal / No Steam

  • How spicy it is:
    • Little to no on-page intimacy. Maybe longing glances. Maybe one kiss. Possibly none.
  • How frequent it is:
    • Very rare or nonexistent.
  • Think: light romance. If intimacy happens, it’s implied or fully off-page.

🌶️ 2/5 — Kissing / Light Heat

  • How spicy it is:
    • Heavy kissing. Lingering touches. Some tension.
    • If intimacy happens, it fades to black. No graphic body-part naming. No detailed description.
  • How frequent it is:
    • Usually limited. A few kissing scenes. Maybe one stronger moment near the end.
  • You might get: “He carried me to the bedroom…” → scene cuts.

🌶️ 3/5 — Mildly Explicit

  • How spicy it is:
    • Now we’re getting detail. You know who is touching what.
    • Foreplay is often more developed than the actual intercourse. Scenes may be shorter but clearly explicit.
  • How frequent it is:
    • Moderate. Could happen multiple times.
    • Sometimes this level includes books that are “level 2” in graphic detail but happen more often.
  • This is where the spice is definitely spicing — but it’s not the entire point of the book.

🌶️ 4/5 — Explicit Scenes

  • How spicy it is:
    • Full, graphic sex scenes. Body parts named. Explicit language.
  • How frequent it is:
    • Several detailed scenes.
    • 2–3 fully developed spicy scenes minimum, plus additional heavy foreplay or tension scenes.
    • The romance and plot still matter — but the spice is very present.

🌶️ 5/5 — Graphic & Frequent

  • How spicy it is:
    • Very detailed. Nothing is vague.
    • Can include kink, group scenes, toys, power dynamics, etc.
  • How frequent it is:
    • Frequent and central to the story. The sexual relationship is a major focus.
  • This is maximum peppers 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

🔥 Burn Level

Burn = when intimacy happens in the story timeline. How fast the relationship heats up.

  • Slow Burn
    • Intimacy happens around 70–80% of the book.
    • Lots of emotional buildup first.
  • Medium Burn
    • Intimacy around the 50% mark.
    • You get tension and payoff in balanced measure.
  • Fast Burn
    • Intimacy by 30% or earlier.
    • They get together quickly.

📖 Plot Pacing

How fast the story events move.

  • Slow-paced → heavy on internal thoughts, worldbuilding, emotional development.
  • Medium-paced → balanced story progression.
  • Fast-paced → constant movement, action, little downtime.

Because series confusion is real.

  • Minor Context Gaps
    • You might miss small references.
  • Spoils Earlier Books
    • Safe to start, but big twists from earlier books are revealed.
  • Read Previous Books First
    • You’ll be completely lost otherwise.
