Well, this is the first book of the series, so technically yes, but check the ending type above in case you want to avoid cliffhangers.
Book Blurb
What’s worse than falling for your brother’s best friend? Falling for your boss—and also your secret baby daddy.
Seven years ago, I made one tiny mistake: falling into bed with my brother’s best friend. Deacon was everything—gorgeous, powerful, my fated mate. Until he rejected me the morning after like I was last week’s leftovers.
What he didn’t know? I left with more than just a broken heart—I left with twins.
Fast forward to today. My life’s finally on track. I’ve got a good job, two adorable boys, and no messy Alpha drama. Then my new boss walks in, all smirks and muscles, and surprise! It’s Deacon freaking Cross.
He says he made a mistake and is determined to fix everything. That he wants me back—not just as his assistant, but as his mate.
He’s getting too close. To me. To my boys. And when he pins me to the table and asks, “What aren’t you telling me?”
My answer?
Let him chase. I’ve got secrets worth keeping—and this time, I’m calling the shots. What’s worse than falling for your brother’s best friend? Falling for your boss—and also your secret baby daddy.

Rating & review
My review
If miscommunication and messy editing don’t bother you, you might have fun with this trope buffet. For me, the execution didn’t land.
Core themes
This is essentially a second-chance paranormal romance with a workplace twist and a secret-kids reveal.
The setup promises a lot: brother’s best friend ➝ one night → fated mates → rejection → years later he’s the boss. The book even starts strong—I really liked the first few chapters. But later? The tension leans almost entirely on avoidable misunderstandings: one character assumes the worst while the other refuses to interrupt and clarify in a single sentence, which makes conflicts feel manufactured rather than earned.
Honestly, if I saw my beloved saying something I knew wasn’t true, I wouldn’t sit there letting them give a whole monologue —I’d interrupt and say: “That’s not true, let me explain.” The conversations had a weird pacing.
Wanted to sell too many tropes
When there are too many ingredients thrown in without balance, I call that a salad—and this one was a pretty choppy one.
The story piles on tropes—brother’s best friend, rejected mate, secret pregnancy, boss/assistant power dynamics—but most of them are underdeveloped. It feels like the author couldn’t decide what she wanted to include.
One thing that really bothered me: the full title on Amazon is The Alpha’s Broken Oath: An Opposites Attract Fight Against Fate Dark Romance (Feral Hearts Saga Book 1).
In practice:
-
Opposites attract: I didn’t feel a true opposites dynamic beyond job titles and power roles.
-
Fight-against-fate: Fated mates exist, but it isn’t explored beyond a light pull; the “rejected mates” angle reads more like “he broke my heart when I was a teenager.”
-
Dark romance: There are darker elements, but tonally it’s more high-angst second-chance than actual dark romance.
And the worst part?
The typos.
I can overlook a few. This book has a lot—enough to pull me out repeatedly. Two examples (thanks to ChatGPT for helping me explain them):
-
“Six words and she say them in deep agony and devastation.”
→ Wrong verb form: should be “she says them” or “she said them.” -
“‘Yes.” Yes, to making love on a bed. Kiss me, please?”
→ Punctuation/structure is off. Could be: “‘Yes.’ Yes to making love on a bed. ‘Kiss me, please.’”
Verdict: Marketed like a dark, opposites-attract rejected-mates romance; reads like a trope-heavy second-chance weighed down by misunderstandings and typos.
Read at your own risk.
