Overall Rating
Justice is the fourth book in the New Species series—another five-star read for me (notice a pattern here? The first four books have all been five stars!).
Can You Start Here?
Technically, yes—you could jump in at Justice and understand the basic story. But you’d miss so much of the world-building and character depth. I highly recommend starting with Fury, or at least Slade. You might even skip Valiant if you’re in a rush, but definitely don’t begin with Justice. This book is full of callbacks to other couples’ journeys and key events.
Plot vs. Romance
This book blends new twists in the New Species vs. Mercile conflict—about 40% plot and 60% romance. Of course, the two intertwine: as the blurb says, “He’s torn between the woman he wants and the oath he’s taken.”
I don’t want to spoil the plot by explaining what Jessie (the female main character) does for a living, but it is related to the plot development: new details about Mercile are shared. Here we move away from the “damsel in distress” vibe of earlier books and meet our first truly badass female lead! Don’t worry, there’s still plenty of danger and action.
Jessie & Justice: Relationship Dynamics
I really enjoyed how Jessie and Justice’s relationship developed. One thing I appreciate about this series is that the author doesn’t just recycle the same plot with new hero(-ine)s—each couple gets their own unique journey. Their progression is quick but believable, the “hot” scenes are on point, and there’s a genuine give-and-take in their support for one another: she stands by him as leader of the New Species Organization, and he champions her career ambitions.
-
Jessie: badass, tough, intelligent (yay), strong, selfless
-
Justice: hot alpha-leader vibes, with a surprisingly sweet, vulnerable side
Final Thoughts
If you love action-packed paranormal romances with strong, unique couples and plenty of heat, Justice will not disappoint.
